Recent food and wine pairings

The other night I made amazing flank steaks with a tapenade, artichokes and red potatoes. This was paired with the 2006 Mettler Petite Syrah. I love this wine for only $19.99!! It has a hearty taste to it and it paired really well with the flank steak.

Last night I had an amazing pork shank paired with a tempernillo. I also paired this wine with 5 different types of chorizo.

YUMMY!!

Song to Charlie Mopps

Lyrics below are from the Clancy Brothers recording:

A long time ago, way back in history
When all there was to drink was nothing but cups of tea
Along came a man by the name of Charlie Mops
And he invented a wonderful drink and he made it out of
hops

(Chorus)
oh he ought to be an admiral, a sultan, or a king
And to his praises we shall always sing
Look what he has done for us, he's filled us up with cheer
lord bless Charlie Mops,
The man who invented beer
The Jury's Bar, the Clancy's Pub, the Hole in the Wall as well
One thing you can be sure of, it's Charlie's beer they sell
So come on all me lucky lads at eleven O'clock ye stop
For five short seconds, remember Charlie Mops
One, two, three, four, five
Chorus
A bushel of malt, A barrel of hops, you stir it around with a stick,
The kind of lubrication to make your engine tick.
Forty pints of wallop a day will keep away the quacks.
It's only eight pence ha'penny and one and six in tax
One, two, three, four, five
Chorus
The lord bless Charlie Mops!

Wines from the past week

Below are some pictures and reviews of wines that I have tasted recently.

First is the 2009 Chateau Sauman Cotes De Bourg. For $14 this is a nice wine and good buy. Let this wine sit and open up for a bit before drinking. Cotes De Bourg wines normally are Merlot based wines blended with smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. This wine is a blend of 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 90% Merlot.
The wine below is the 2009 Turley Juvenile Zinfandel. As I will say once again...Turley Wine Cellars seems a bit snobby. Why would I say this? My mom is on the WAITING LIST to BE on the MAILING List. Crazy if you ask me.

Are they making decent wines? Is Disney World crack to children? Yes. The Juvenile is as the name suggests, their lowest price and introductory wine. If you want their other wines...get on the waiting list to be on the mailing list people! Gosh! How could you expect to actually just call and immediately order these wines? What are you....wine newbies? Well yes, yes I am.

I love this Juvenile Zinfandel. I thought it was the bees knees. Why all the secrecy? I even tried to find out more about your wines on your website. Am I not even worthy to read about your wines unless I'm on the mailing list? I have to freaking LOG IN!! I don't like high horses and never get on one.

This next wine is a nice Sangiovese from Napa Valley. It is the 2007 Benessere Sangiovese. I am almost certain this vintage was made by Chris Dearden before he left Benessere. I also had the chance to taste the Sleeping Giant Cabernet Sauvignon and loved that.

I saved my favorite for last. I am just loving this 2007 Cab Franc from Isenhower. I want to visit this winery and try all their wines. I have to say this is one of my favorite wines right now for the taste and price. YUM YUM YUM

The wine is a blend of 83% Cab Franc, 11% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Tasting Notes from IC website:
"The Road Less Traveled Cabernet Franc is a beautiful, medium bodied wine full of blueberries, white truffles, red plums, currants, and dried herbs. Enjoy now through 2015 with Gyros, spicy pork dishes, and grilled vegetables."
